Concert Music Photography

Fun fact, I started out as a Music Photographer. Let’s pause while you let that sink in…

Looking back I have no idea how the heck I pulled that off when I think about it. If I am ever asked about the things I love, of course I can say I love my family, I love to travel, I love my career, I really love my dog; and so on and so on and so on. The truth is (and yes I do love all those things), I really, whole heartedly, with all my being LOVE music. What kind of music you might ask? Well, ANYTHING! I love the art of lyrics and music coming together. I am fascinated with the choice of words an artist uses to make a song. I can sit and stare at someone all day while they are strumming a guitar. I take notice at what chords they are playing and often wonder why they are using those chords. One of my favorite things to photograph is drummers drumming. Percussion is the heartbeat of any band. They keep time and they have the power to change the tempo while they are performing. My love for travel, photography and music allowed me to travel the United States on and off for about five years and follow bands I liked. I had the rare opportunity to meet The Veronica’s, Jeff Beck (now that’s story if you ever want to hear it), Aerosmith, Oranthi, KC and the Sunshine Band, Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown, REO Speedwagon, ZZ Top, Tony Bennet, Andrea Bocelli. The list goes on and on.

Reality set in one day and I decided to go the route of shooting Weddings, Events and Families. To be blunt, it pays the bills while Music Photography for me personally did not. But every once in awhile you’ll see me in a smaller venue with my camera. Chances are, I don’t have any idea who the band is. I just love photographing Musicians. It gets my creative juices flowing and allows me to enjoy two things I am passionate about…music and photography.
